#3 EAT ON A ROCK CASTAWAY IN THE INDIAN OCEAN

Takes all of one look to know that the Rock is by no means your average restaurant. Castaway at sea, surrounded by the Indian Ocean, just offshore the gorgeous Michanwi Pingwe beach. The Rock serves some of the freshest seafood & offers one of the most unique dining experiences in the world - most of the restaurant’s food is caught daily from the encircling azure waters; rising to as high as 4.5 m up the side of the rock, a structure which is only 7 m high to begin with. During low tide, the Rock can easily be reached by foot, but at high tide, you will be transported to and from the mainland via boat. Featuring both indoor and outdoor dining, for a total capacity of 45 people at one time. Dining at the Rock Restaurant is the ultimate bucket list contender, a must for the inspired foodie & the intrepid traveler, and an exhilarating experience for all.

#5 EATON AN UNCHARTED SANDBANK IN MOZAMBIQUE

Anantara Bazaruto is widely referred to as Mozambique’s #1 luxury property. Hard, impossible even, to argue as it is quite literally the most exquisite offering, making it onto the 2016 TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice List of Top Hotels in addition to receiving TripAdvisor’s 2016 Award of Excellence.

This uber luxurious dining extravaganza is a signature experience they call “Dining by Design” – where guests get to choose any location they wish & Anantara’s team will roll in and do the rest. Understandably one of the preferred locations is one of many barely surfacing sandbanks, far enough from home base for the ultimate intimate experience though not too far to make you think back to Castaway and what you might fashion a ‘Wilson’ from, should it ever come to that... It’s dining for two, served alfresco (with a few options for romantic lighting for you to choose from) on a private deserted sandbank, boasting some of the if not THE finest & flawless sands you’ll ever feel beneath the soles of your feet - clearly by virtue of location, above sea level status - if at all - & further made possible by nature’s thorough upkeep, so to speak. And of course, as you can clearly see, it’s completely surrounded by the crystal clear turquoise waters Mozambique is so well known for. And need not be said, unrivaled seafood.

#6 EAT BEDOUIN-STYLE FOR BREAKFAST, LUNCH & DINNER (+ 10-15 SERVINGS OF TEA SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN)

An experience best executed by Dar Ahlam, one of Morocco’s most luxurious properties & the perfect far away treat. Guests eat at a time of their choosing, but the location is always a surprise. For breakfast, you may be ushered to a low laying table surrounding by bolsters and sinking cushions, laid out beneath long bolts of silk taken by the occasional breeze whereas dinner may await you in a glorious room lit by candles. You could very well find lunch in a palm grove, a sumptuous picnic of roasted herb chicken & salad accompanied by a bottle of rosé and an audience of curious goats.

Got Milk? Discover Zambia’s illustrious elephants by boat, 4 x 4, foot, over brunch or when they meander onto your private deck to better access a particular tree that they desire. Chongwe, Lusaka Province affords a surreal proximity to wildlife, the unspoiled wilderness enclosed by Zambia’s mightiest river valleys - the Luangwa & the Zambezi and a range of exclusive properties and experiences. #13 EAT AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD & ON THE VERGE OF THE NGORONGORO CRATER

The Ngorongoro Crater Lodge takes dining to a whole other level. Here are just a few examples of some of the signature dining experiences to be had during your stay at the Ngorongoro’s most luxurious property, through & through.

As the dawn begins to tinge the morning sky, a soft knock on the door announces your butler with a wake-up call and a fragrant cup of tea or coffee. An air of anticipation for the day ahead hangs over the breakfast table as the morning meal is served & the breakfast table hangs over the Ngorongoro Crater itself, the largest volcanic caldera in the world.

For the ultimate romantic experience, consider the Honeymoon Rose Petal Dinner. Your private dinner begins with a long soak in a hot bubble bath large enough for two, from where you can admire magnificent views of the Ngorongoro Crater. From there, a carpet of rose petals leads to an elegant table set up just for you in the privacy of your opulent suite. Attentive yet discrete, your personal butler serves up a delicious feast, prepared by the lodge’s professional chefs and accompanied by a bottle of the finest French champagne.

Equally romantic and exclusive is the option to Dine & Wine in the Ngorongoro Cellar. A private dinner in the lodge’s wine store is perfect for an evening spent with a loved one or as a more intimate activity to spend with friends and family. Tuck into a delectable menu in the beautiful surrounds of the &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge’s wine store. This dinner comes with a small bottle of French champagne as well as a bottle of wine, of your choosing.

The Rose Petal Dinner is the perfect experience for larger groups looking to dine in style - whether it be a sophisticated celebration or an elegant last supper to properly commemorate the beautiful time spent in a gorgeous corner of the world. The dining area is magically transformed into an elegant banquet fit for royalty. The long, chandelier-lit dining table, adorned with white linen, candles and bouquets of roses, is surrounded by a carpet of brightly colored rose petals. At each guest’s place setting, a single rose sits on top of a beautifully presented menu card. A sumptuous meal, prepared by expert chefs, is then served by attentive butlers and includes a glass of French champagne. The Rose Petal Dinner is exclusively organized for a minimum of 24 guests.

#15 EAT ON THE ZIBADIANJA LAGOON AT SUNRISE

Dining on the Zibadianja Lagoon on the banks of the Zambezi is an experience that is both incredibly romantic & wildly thrilling at the same time. Something about being on the water makes everything a little bit better, especially when that water happens to be the Zambezi River. A mile across with plenty to see, elephants & hippos wallowing by day and leopards prowling by night. Whether it’s lunch alfresco or dinner by candlelight, this is an utterly unique experience no matter the time of day. An experience which can furthermore be organized outside of the lower Zambezi by Epic Road travel experts - special requests are always accommodated just as long as there’s water and so long as that water is safe enough to cruise & cocktail on.

This once in a lifetime experience takes place in a restaurant you will find in no guidebook and which only accepts reservations upon recommendation from existing patrons. Over the course of an exquisite Kaiseki dinner, you will be privy to world-class entertainment and exclusive interaction with musicians and Geisha. Kaiseki refers to a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner though it also refers to the collection of skills and techniques that allow the preparation of such meals, and is analogous with Western haute cuisine. Kaiseki is one of the best ways to immerse yourself in Japanese tradition, and a private encounter with a Geisha brings you even closer to an insider’s understanding one of the most sophisticated cultures in the world.
